Live Painting at Sunset Room thanks to UrbanHeart Live

Tomorrow I am going to be painting along side a small group of female artist at the Sunset Room in Victoria, BC. (401 Herald Street (behind Value Village) Victoria, BC)


First time I will be painting from "scratch" in a live setting so very excited and a little nervous. Stoked to have a new group of artists (and all females) to paint along side, all contributing the the beautiful energy and flow we will pull from to create that night. I will post pictures of what I get finished at the event and then the finished painting once its completed.

DUST :: Sunset Collaborations | Victoria
Dust began his DJ career in the frozen north of British Columbia in Prince George. Shortly after discovering his love of electronic music, he quickly felt the need to give back to the community through music and promotion. Dust began promoting with Vinylution Productions before becoming a resident and co-founded PGPK Productions with Scott Wright. Before long Dust became a leading DJ in Prince George and surrounding cities playing a variety of music from progressive to house and breakbeat. In the summer of 2004 Dust left the north for the sunnier shores of Victoria where he continues to DJ to enthusiastic audiences at various clubs, afterhour establishments and parties in and around the capital region. 

CHRISTOPH :: Shortfuse | Victoria
Christoph Maitland is a talented DJ, Producer and Promoter. Shortly after gaining popularity throughout Vancouver Island he won the Hush DJ competition in 2002 and became resident DJ at Lush@Hush last year. Now playing weekly alongside world famous DJs at Canada's longest running electronic night, Christoph has developed into a diverse and spirited mixmaster blending elements of house, progressive, electro, breaks and techno to excite the dancefloor. In addition to performing and promoting shows he has been hard at work writing his own original material. This year Christoph has soared to new heights co-founding his own label Short Fuse Recordings and continues to push the limits of his creativity while sharing a love of music and dancing with his audiences and peers.

Striving to bring people together through fusion of cultures and sounds, this promoter/dj/producer is frequently found rocking dance floors alongside heavyweights such as Adham Shaikh, Gaudi, David Starfire, Liquid Stranger, and Jef Stott. With his broad range of influences and keen mixing skills, Rowan deftly navigates through meditative & inspiring downtempo/Hip Hop, glitchy acid breaks, and high energy ethnic techno. This summer Rowan's dusk set at Lasqueti Escape galvanized some amazing energy on the dancefloor before Ganga Giri took the stage. Also making his debut at the Soundwave festival this summer, Rowan's talent and love for music will continue to bring him in front of amazing, inspired and intentional dancefloors again and again. 

DESUNOS :: Tribe, Sunset Collaborations | Victoria
Throwing down dynamic dance music since the summer of 2006, DJ Desunos (aka Laughlin Meagher) finds his roots in dub, reggae and world ethno electronic music, and now finds his home in electro/progressive house with a dash of breaks and tastefull trance. Through his work as a lead singer/songwriter, dee-jaying has become a natural evolution for this dynamic live performer. With 17 years experience on stage Laughlin knows how to rock an audience and is well known for his harmonica solos, his skill on the melodica and his live MCing & vocals. A skilled multi-instrumentalist and dedicated student of music, you never know what he will bring next to his show. Crossing many genres, Desunos has shared the stage with many local and international acts including Adham Shaikh, David Starfire and Timothy Wisdom. Coming soon to an overjoyed sound system near you!

WOOKIE & ECOTONE (Aka Beaks)

WOOKIE :: Lost & Found | Vancouver
Wookie's music blends the best of Techno and House, but also adds a nice Grindy Progressive edge, creating a killer sound with deadly results. Wookie knows all about Dirty Beats, having been a Soundwave Surfshack resident for years and holding the weekly Sweatshop residency at Hush with Beaks McGavin and Joshua for 2 years. Wookie has played alongside the likes of Adham Shaikh and Deko-ze,and has been a Spec resident since 2002 and a Lost and Found resident DJ since 2004. One thing is for certain - Wookie knows how to bring it. See you on the dance floor!

ECOTONE :: aka Beaks! Jumping in last minute for JOSHUA, who can't make this round after all. Wookie & Ecotone go WAY back - you can count on this bringing up some most excellent dorment moments from the gorgeous recesses of your musical brain, and prepare yourself for his ever-growing flavour of tribal funk boogaloo! :)

AFK :: Pacific Front Recordings | Victoria

For the last eleven years, Davin Greenwell, otherwise known as AFK, has been pushing the progressive sound. Davin has been heavily involved in the West Coast electronic music scene through many years of community and FM radio, club and events promotion, and now most prominently with Pacific Front Recordings (PFR), a music label he operates with Justin Humber (aka Formulate). His performances, once under the name "ariz0na," have been regarded as legendary by many. Recording as AFK has seen Davin release several gigantic progressive tracks on his home label, Pacific Front Recordings, and has also ventured to remix for other labels as well. His latest pair of remixes have been of the venerable Benz & MD - two remixes of the atmospheric progressive house masterpiece called "Signals," and also he has put the studio touches on a brand new Powerplant and Kevin Shiu track called "8 Feet Under." His collaboration with Anand Greenwell, Tiebreaker, has been very well received, as well as his collaborations with Dustin H - the most recent being Seismic. Davin has been remixed by names such as Stefan Anion, Powerplant, Shiloh, Steve May, Dumb Dan, Jacob Todd, Dustin H, Jarius Miller, Fractal, Seed, Phokus, Desert Dwellers, Blake Jarrell, Matt Rowan, Jeff Devas, Influenza, Micah, Formulate, Jaytech, c79, His Boy Elroy and more. In addition to the Pacific Front releases, he has music released on Proton Music, collaborated with Dustin H for a release on Emote Music, done remix work for the Los Angeles label Ritual Sounds, and a release out on Inaspace Recordings UK under the guise of Royal Assassin with Thor Kell, also known as Fractal. Davin's music has extended globally and can be heard in forward-thinking clubs all over the world with support from DJ's like Sasha and John Digweed, Armin Van Buuren, Dale Anderson, Anthony Pappa, Hybrid, Luke Chable and many more. 

DOTCHED :: Sunset Labs, Victoria
Dotched's love of electronica was fueled growing up in Saskatchewan and regularly attending Connect Festival and Galaxy Lounge nights hosted by Dr.J and DJ Me. After moving to Victoria he helped found a popular community radio show on CFUV called Really Good Music along with Rave Victoria originator Davin Greenwell/Arizona. The show soon went to commercial airwaves on extreme 107.3 where it hosted the likes of John Digweed, Timo Maas, Moby, Hybrid, Paul Van Dyk and Tiesto. This played a part in his becoming an early host and contributor to the Victoria Electronic Festival. Dj Dotched has always played an eclectic mix of music, from house & progressive, moving into techhouse and techno and now playing a blend of French Electro, Techno and Nu-Disco! Prepare to rediscover this long-time VIctoria beatmaker.

Having traveled many a strange and varied dancefloor, delving deep into emerging scenes and genres over the course of a decade, Cloud Dancer (Chris Immink) stepped behind the decks for the first time a little over 3 years ago - and magic happened both for him, and for his listeners. Since then Cloud Dancer has formed deep roots within Victoria, aligning himself as core crew with the Rainbow Cathedral and Returning Saturn Productions. Crafting diverse & strategic soundscapes ranging from deep sacred downtempo to full-on psytrance with many ethno-infused tangents, , Cloud Dancer plays what he would dance to. If you haven't already, we expect you'll soon understand why.

MOUNTAIN EYES :: Rainbow Cathedral | Victoria
Co-founder of the Rainbow Cathedral, a church based on the ancient practice of all night dance, Mountain Eyes is known for his deep, ethno-infused progressive soundscapes. His sets invoke the sacred tribal spirit within us all, calling on us to shake out the energies and beliefs that hold us back. Getting lost in dancefloors since 2000, Mountain Eyes' musical tastes have been honed by the influence of Delira's rainforest events, the magical SPEC gatherings, and the frequenting of underground clubs. He has shared stages with such masters as Human Blue, Adham Shaikh, David Starfire, Osiris Indriya, Telepathic, and Basilisk, as well as west coast heroes Mythril, RJ Solo, Akhentek, Yoseff, Joshua, DJ Dust, Nils, and Lady Ra. Mythril, a multi-insrtumentalist and visionary artist form Vancouver BC, who has been mixing and making music for over 2 decades, is known for his inspirational musical vision throughout the Pacific Northwest. Performing at many underground gatherings and international festivals, he has brought cutting edge music to dancefloors across North America. From high-powered launches to graceful landings - progresive psy, downtempo, breaks and dub flavour his musical journeys. Some of his favorite producers have shared the stage with him such as Protoculture, Jaia, Antix, Pixel, Koxbox, Deedrah, Shadow FX, Human Blue, Solar Fields, Ott - and many more from international and local rosters as well as art showings at Sunrise, Shambhala and Entheos Festivals including Shpongle's Seattle performance.
